Hard water is probably the most common problem found in a household and not only in it. Hard water can substantially increase your household budget. The hard water means a time bomb for water distribution systems and appliances. Minerals are deposited and increasingly reduce the effectiveness of the device until it is completely decommissioned. Devices heating water are mostly at risk. Scale, alum, incrust (as these deposits are called) clog also water pipes and fittings. The higher is the temperature, the faster scale stores and thus also reduces the lifetime of these devices since scale is not able to conduct heat well. At the place with a thicker layer, it can thus lead to overheating and a subsequent breach of the boiler walls or even up to its destruction. Scale deposition on container walls and equipments also means an increase in electricity consumption – already several millimetres cause an increase by tens of percent. It is therefore necessary to remove calcium and magnesium from technical and hot non-potable water. In water-softening is however necessary to comply with applicable hygiene and health rules since neither very soft water is desirable in technological processes as it is aggressive and may cause corrosion of pipes.
